Daawat is doing the same thing as the Indian and Pakistani chains that have sprung up around the Bay Area over the past five years: same get-it-yourself service, same low prices, same fervently seasoned curries and tandoor-roasted meats. Its just doing it better. The bihari (beef) kebob is crusted in more spices than you have in your cabinet, the dals taste nutty and complex, and the flavor of the biryanis will stay with you for hours in a good way.
