While keeping busy flipping through records, you'll see some great releases pop up from some established acts this month. First of all, you must check for the new currently white label-only 12" from Butti 49, "Alan Accelerates," on its new home, Hi Fi Terapi Records. The B-side includes a remix by Fenomenon's Snowjogg. You may recognize Butti 49 from its previous 12", "Brazilikum," on Chicago's Guidance label. Its trademark sound of nice bass, chunky drums, and touches of Brazilian percussion over tasty uptempo breakbeats is still very much intact. Also, check for its remix of Dusko Gojkovic's 1979 track "Quo Vadis," recently released as a 12" on Cosmic Sounds.
DJ Format finally drops his full-length album Music for the Mature B-Boy. After two wicked 12"s ("B-Boy Code" and "We Know Something" with Chali 2na and Akil from Jurassic 5), the album is as stellar as you'd expect. Nice one!
Also finally releasing an album this month is Dynamo Productions, whose album Analogue on the UK's Illicit Recordings collects most of the tracks from their previous three "Showtime" series 12"s with a few new ones. This is midtempo and uptempo big beat club music, similar to the Wiseguys and the like.
The fantastic German label Perfect Toy presents its third release this month, a new 12" by Hypnosis. This is nice, jazzy house that's been given the Gerardo Frisina remix treatment -- it's nothing short of brilliant. (Eric Hilton from Thievery Corporation picked up a copy when he was in town recently. Check for it before it disappears.) Other excellent Perfect Toy releases include an Aflex Combo 12" and a compilation of obscure soul and jazz from the '60s, Creative Musicians.
On the reissue tip, go nab the Lebron Brothers' Psychedelic Goes Latin on Cotique right away. While it's not really "psychedelic," it is a mind-bender! Also worth grabbing is the reissue of Willie Bobo's rarest and most funky '70s album, Do What You Wanna Do, on Sussex.
