This Oakland spot is designed to look as if you’re walking into a magical secret garden, with its wall-to-wall mural of tropical plants, babbling brooks, and creepers set against an earthtone backdrop painted to resemble cobblestones. There’s a medium-size stage in the rear, where the Jim Grantham Quartet performs jazz every Sunday for no cover. Other amenities include the shaded front patio and window boxes, plus a shelf offering about a hundred different kinds of decaffeinated tea. It’s a cool, clean, funky hangout, and the espresso drinks are priced a little cheaper than the average franchise. Located on Grand Avenue, about a block from the Grand Lake Theater.
