This jazzy, planked-wood Oakland cafe is one of the Bay Areas coolest hangouts. The cuisine (hearty American fare with a few Mediterranean accents) isnt always up to the setting, but the luscious pork shank with figs and apricots, the potato gratin with Fiscalini cheddar, and a pot de crème touched with cinnamon are delectable. Five wines are served tapped from the barrel, and there's often a three-course dinner prix-fixe available.
