This flavorful version of Stephen King’s much-adapted horror novel about a bullied, telekinetically gifted high-school girl and her lethal senior prom night may be the champion of the bunch. Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore are very good as Carrie and her violent religious-maniac mother, a slight improvement over Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie in the 1976 original movie. In fact, we could say that director Kimberly (Boys Don’t Cry) Peirce’s feel for the material, dated as that material is, goes the Brian De Palma version one better. It’s as if the screenplay – by Lawrence D. Cohen and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa – were especially written for the placid-but-seething Moretz and fire-breathing Moore. Costarring Gabriella Wilde as Carrie’s contrite classmate, Portia Doubleday as Carrie’s nemesis, and Judy Greer as a sympathetic gym teacher (99 min.).
Sorry there are no upcoming showtimes for Carrie
