At this stage of his career, Sylvester Stallone has the perfect face – weary, dissipated, but hard-baked – for the ultra-violent story of a hood named Jimmy Bobo, who forms an unlikely alliance with a police detective (Sung Kang) to neutralize the rottenest element of “Crescent City.” Stallone is also fortunate to have old pro action honcho Walter Hill (
The Warriors, 48 Hrs., Wild Bill) in the director’s chair. Together they make the often-corny dialogue sound not only plausible but weirdly logical. Alessandro Camon’s screenplay is adapted from Du plomb de la tête, a graphic novel by Matz and Colin Wilson. Christian Slater costars as a sleazy socialite/criminal. (92 min.)
