Most of the old hofbraus — those only-in-California style of restaurant that crossed beerhalls with cafeterias — have died out. But Brennan’s is still dishing up much the same food it did in 1959: turkey dinner with all the trimmings, corned beef and cabbage, barbecued brisket sandwiches. Take your tray and sit at the long communal tables, or crowd around the bar with everybody else to drink beer and watch the football game. For less than $10 a meal, you get more than you pay for.

Hours: 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Sun.-Wed.; 11:00 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. Thurs.-Sat.; Bar open 'till 11 p.m.
