Oakland indie-pop band Dizzy Balloon is breaking up and will play its final show on December 30 at the Rickshaw Stop. The band, started by Piedmont High School friends as Panda, announced on its MySpace page last week that the show will be its last "for an indefinite amount of time."
"Contrary to some skepticism, we are not trying to pull a fast one and mislead anyone. We simply want to give our friends, family and fans one last show before we go our separate ways and focus on other projects we're working on. It has truly been an unbelievable run up until now. From the Middle School talent shows to the Oracle Arena and everything in between, it is bittersweet to say the least, that all good things must come to an end."
Three members of Dizzy Balloon are now in the band Talking Heads-influenced Man in Space, which plays the Great American Music Hall on 11/27.
Dizzy Balloon plays its final show at the Rickshaw Stop on 12/30 with A B & The Sea and Finish Ticket. 8 p.m., $12, $14. All-ages
