Judgement Day to Release New Album

San Francisco-string metal band Judgement Day made quite an impression with its 2004 debut, Dark Opus, which boldly declared that, despite all the shredding, it was devoid of guitars. But then the trio — brothers Anton (on violin) and Lewis (on cello) Patzner, and drummer Jon Bush — took a long break. Lewis enrolled in the Peabody Institute, where he studied performance technique and advanced music theory, while Anton joined Bright Eyes. Four years later, the guys are back with a new album, Peacocks/Pink Monsters.

While that album name may not exactly conjure the most metal of images, it does hint at the kind of disparate elements each member brought to the songwriting process. According to the band’s press release, this means “Lewis’s love of instrumental technique and compositional complexity, Anton’s passion for experimentation and production, and Jon’s knack for mathematics, as well as his testosterone-driven, tough drumming style. The result is a well-oiled, avant-garde string metal machine.”

The album drops April 13. In the meantime, you can catch the band at Noise Pop on February 26, and at an art show and listening party at Space Gallery on March 5.
