A customer at a College Avenue café was working on a laptop yesterday only to have it snatched through the open window by thieves. But thanks to an alert witness, the story has a happy ending (well, not for the thieves), according to a bulletin just received from the BART police. At 6:18 p.m., it reads, "officers intercepted a San Francisco train at Powell St. station and off-boarded three subjects believed to have been involved in the grand theft of a computer in Oakland P.D.'s jurisdiction. The offense took place at a coffee shop on College Avenue where the suspects snatched a laptop computer from a customer at the restaurant by reaching through an open window. A witness spotted the suspects on a train at MacArthur station. Two of the detainees were arrested for grand theft and turned over to the Oakland Police." Good work, officers! Now if only these miscreants could actually be kept off the streets for a while....
