Beyond Borders: Más Allá de las Fronteras

When: Thu., April 30, 6-8 p.m. 2009

Mainstream news devotes a lot of time and space to the rigmarole of the immigration debate, but seldom do we get a young person's perspective. With that in mind, staff at the San Francisco-based after-school program Without Borders decided to launch a multimedia project that would allow immigrant youth to represent themselves. Over a period of five months, ten kids from the program created autobiographical films that offered a thumbnail sketch of their own immigrant experience. The result, called Beyond Borders: MásAllá de lasFronteras, will screen Thursday, April 30, at the Oakland Museum of California's James Moore Theatre (1000 Oak St.) along with videos by fledgling producers from the local organization Youth Radio. 6-8 p.m., free.
