Best Weekly Bike Ride

Team Alameda

What makes for a "best" ride? Well, that's a matter of opinion, so selecting Team Alameda is a way of hedging all bets. The overactive club has not just one weekly ride but as many as six on weekends and weekdays, usually starting in downtown Alameda. They range from leisurely beginner sightseeing jaunts to "Death Rides" like the one on July 11, which went all the way to Markleeville, near the Nevada border, covering 129 miles and climbing 16,000 vertical feet. Most of Team Alameda's 100-some members prefer a route somewhere between the two extremes, heading, for example, into the Oakland Hills, to the Berkeley Marina, or a "Peet's to Peet's" ride from a coffee start in Alameda to a coffee stop in Danville. Membership is $25 per household, but you can take a "test-drive" with the club for free.
