The newly reopened Ivy Room’s Mayan Decadence manages to be both sweet-tooth-satisfyingly chocolatey, seriously boozy, beautifully layered, and remarkably sophisticated, with none of that milkshakey heaviness you often find in dessert drinks — just a healthy base of Chinaco Añejo tequila; the subtly herbal hit of xtabentún honey and anise liqueur; sweet and spicy molé and chocolate bitters; and an orange peel to cut a bit of the richness, served over ice. This is a dessert drink for grown-ups, or maybe it’s not even a dessert drink at all. Either way, it’s worth a trip.
