Some people think the Oakland A's are magic, an East Bay talisman. Berkeley astrologer Andrea Mallis take it even further: She combines her love of the game with her skills as an astrologer, offering her forecasting skills to teams in search of new players. It all started in 2001, when she called in to the A's post-game radio show, "Extra Innings," and gave a right-on reading of pitcher Barry Zito's chart; ever since, she's been a featured part of the show. She also has appeared on ESPN, MLB.com, and KNBR. Mallis analyzes information from an athlete's chart and compares the position of the person's birth planets with current planetary alignments — a skill she says can supplement the scouting process and save a team money by providing insight into an athlete's performance cycles, susceptibility to injury, and clubhouse chemistry. Forget steroids, and try astrology — at least it's legal.
