Best Snowboard/Skateboard Shop: Lust for powpow and tanlines
The folks at this northwest Berkeley gear outlet don't care if you lack balance. You can still look street, which makes this the best snow and skate shop around. With 20,000 square feet of floor space and five years in the B-town area, 1440 has something for everyone. Its prices on snowboard gear have dropped like manna from heaven (40 percent off) for spring boarders chasing down midyear powpow, while new shipments of sandals and boardshorts from Reef and Quicksilver quicken the pace of sun lovers aching for tan lines. More than forty skate decks from Think, Real, Element, Spitfire, Anti Hero, and other greats dominate the hard goods section, while rows and rows of soft goods and apparel from Nor Cal and the like promise snazzy threads for the richest posers. Destination 1440 is missing the ever-essential pro team out there repping the name, but it's making up for it by getting the permits and insurance for a brand-new indoor skatepark this year. Killer.
