Best Shoe Store: For stylish footwear worshippers
Twenty two chooses quality over quantity, and its Oakland flagship boutique is as well curated as a museum display. Nothing here is cheap, but the taste is pretty dang priceless. The shop's style tends toward the sporty and the brightly colored (Adidas with fluorescent stripes, Pumas in funky jewel tones, the slim but high-energy Onitsuka Tigers), and slightly more sedate Piedmont chic (strappy-yet-sensible sandals for summer, a few variations on the insanely popular ballet flat/kitten heel hybrid). This spring the shop's owners, husband-and-wife design team Chris and Alexandra Silverman, unveiled their own in-house line of women's shoes, mostly sleek leather flats and slip-ons that fit right in with the shop's unerring good taste.
