What if kids learned about science for the sheer fun of it? That's just what Sarah Shaffer aims to do: make science so exciting that kids -- and their teachers -- find new pleasure in learning about the world. The naturalist has been teaching children and teachers about science for more than fifteen years, and offers kids' classes, summer day and school vacation camps, and school programs. During a camp or class experience with Shaffer, kids might create a sanctuary for a pond snail; make a mini-Ferris wheel or a rubber-band robot; design a worm-compost bin; or make and launch a balloon rocket. Shaffer holds her programs around the East Bay, making use of the regional park system as well as indoor venues. Her passion for science will infect even the most jaded child. Vive la science!
