4 Square of the East Bay

This may be hard to believe, but before it was an app, Four Square was a REAL THING. And thanks to Sam Mende-Wong and his scrappy crew of players, it’s making a comeback: Specifically, every Thursday starting at around 9 p.m. at the south end of the Rockbridge BART station parking lot, where, for the last four years, a completely ad-hoc group of anywhere between ten and thirty people have been meeting up for a lively-but-low-pressure game of the playground classic. It’s elementary school without the threat of noogies; a way to get out of the house and meet people without having to resort to the bar scene; a mildly athletic experience without, you know, the actual bother of breaking a sweat. And don’t worry if you can’t remember the rules; Mende-Wong and everyone else will be happy to teach you.
