Cinnaholic

As a lifestyle, veganism is about as ascetic as it gets — but that doesn’t necessarily mean someone who eschews animal products doesn’t relish the occasional chance to eat a baked good that’s the size of their face and contains as many calories as the forbidden Big Mac. Sadly, and despite the seeming ubiquity of veganism around here, those in search of a cruelty-free calorie bomb have few places to look. That is, until last summer, when animal-rights activists (and bang-up pastry chefs) Shannon and Florian Radke opened Cinnaholic — an entire business mercifully devoted to providing the East Bay with insanely rich, unfathomably delicious cinnamon rolls, available in endless flavor combinations and all made without butter, eggs, or even commercial sugar, which is processed using animal bones. The Radkes offer forty-plus different toppings and frostings in inspired flavors (Key Lime! Root beer! Candy canes! Vegan marshmallows!), but for the sake of your sanity, you’re probably better off picking one of their pre-selected combos — something like the Fudge Brownie Chunk, which includes a gooey, gloppy, unbelievably huge and impossibly, well, buttery cinnamon roll covered in frosting and studded with rich vegan brownies. Tofu and bean sprouts, this ain’t, and here’s to equal-opportunity gluttony.
