Best Pub Quiz: Avoid the Glory Hole Surfers
If you prefer intellectual exercises, and you're looking for a genuine pub quiz look no further than Berkeley's oldest pub, the Albatross. Quiz night, which starts at 8:30 p.m. on Sundays, is one of the highlights of this dimly lit but cheerful venue. Teams of not more than five people compete in six categories, ranging from general knowledge to things such as "match the pasta type with the Italian name." Most challenging for all but the DJs is the music round, during which you listen to a tune and name the band. The prizes include drink tokens, T-shirts, hats, and assorted items of the day (one time they even gave out Xmas lights). There's even a prize for the best team name. Some classics include the Glory Hole Surfers and Queen la Queef'a. Not a team player? At the end of the game there's an individual round with three questions. So if you remember stuff like "Who shot JR?" you just might get a purple Cointreau T-shirt.
