Best Place to Make Art

Linden Street Figure Drawing

For people stuck in nine-to-five jobs, finding the energy to pursue an artistic hobby in the evenings can be difficult. That's one of the reasons Linden Street Drawing, a weekly art meetup hosted by the longtime artist Sebastian Gabriel Hyde in his home (the address is given after you become a member), is so appealing. The three-hour, Tuesday-night sessions give a group of roughly twenty artists an opportunity to draw a live nude model in a series of poses. The environment is very relaxed — the group listens to music and chats while drawing — but the session is fairly structured and always remains focused on the art. Models hold a number of short poses — some as quick as two minutes — at the start of the session, and then progress to longer ones toward the end. Hyde has been hosting the sessions for more than fifteen years and now has hundreds of members in his Meetup.com group. New artists are always welcome, and the sessions attract amateurs and professionals alike. A single class costs $12, or members can pay $40 for a month of sessions. For hours of dedicated creative time, it's well worth the price.
