The nation's second-oldest (and perhaps the Bay's least-pretentious)
gay bar is a guaranteed good time most nights of the week. But on a
mellow Monday night, you can't find much better entertainment anywhere
than a six-hour-long happy hour followed by gay karaoke with DJ Whirl.
Now, if karaoke existed in the super-stylish Castro, it would no doubt
be overrun by fit, hair-gelled, Diesel-wearing American Idol
hopefuls. But in true White Horse style, Monday-night karaoke is a
refreshingly laid-back anti-scene, where you can find fag hags,
butches, bears, divas, and everyone in between singing perfectly
off-key and downing cheap cocktails. Gay or straight, talented or
tone-deaf, it's nearly impossible not to feel at home here.
