Golden Gate Fields

How many places are there in the East Bay where salty sorts can comfortably sip alcoholic beverages, puff on cigarettes, and bet on horse races without fear of retribution from snooty haters of all things fun? It turns out there’s just one: Golden Gate Fields. A venue beloved by anyone and everyone who values the more illicit trappings of a bygone era (a time when booze and cigarettes went hand-in-hand and spending an entire day at the track was a perfectly acceptable way to spend a Sunday), the track hosts live and simulcast races throughout the week and attracts everyone from fresh-faced families to grizzled veterans. It also features special events regularly, including wiener dog races, Kentucky Derby days, and live music, and every Sunday, everything from hot dogs to admission is just one dollar. A little advice for first-timers: You’ll have an infinitely better time if you place a bet.
