Best New Dance Craze: Don't miss the big dance November 2
The President Select
Not since punks jumped symbolically up and down on the presidency of Ronald Reagan has an American dance rage been so, well, ragingly political. Kids are doing it all across the nation, but nowhere is that crazy President Select as prevalent as in the agitation-prone East Bay. You've probably seen it, but you may not have recognized it, since it varies slightly from the hip-hop concert to the jazz club, the electroclash scene to the heavy metal bar. But the basic moves are always the same: You put your right hand over your heart, then use your left hand to pull it off; put your left hand over your right side, antiheart; then shake your head. (Chanting, No, no, he ain't mine, as in Bushface Killah's underground smash the dance was named for, is optional). Finally, stick your butt out and shake it from side to side. Repeat till the evildoer is gone, y'all.
