Best Needlework Shop

Lacis

Lacis, both a retail store and a textile arts museum, is a fascinating place to visit even if you're not a needlework or sewing aficionado. The museum alone is worth a look — a rotating selection of thousands of lace pieces and garments from the 18th and 19th centuries are on display. The owner and her employees are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, always happy to talk about the pieces in their collection. The store, which is nestled amongst a row of antique shops at Adeline and Ashby, has an amazing selection of all things related to needlework. An array of antique textiles, including hankerchiefs, tablecloths, and lampshades, is available for purchase. Lacis's extensive needlework offerings are focused on the crafts of lace making, tatting, kumihimo, and embroidery. Costume designers frequent Lacis for their beautiful trims, ribbons, and hard-to-find accessories. Thousands of book titles and patterns are available in Lacis's library.
