Best Mascot

The Berkeley High School Yellowjackets

It can't be easy standing out at Berkeley High School. Overshadowed by the University of California a few blocks away, the largest high school community in the East Bay does not have the kind of home-field advantage possessed by other towns with one big high school. Try wearing the school colors of red and gold around town and you might find yourself taunted by people who think you're representing USC or Stanford. But the Yellowjacket mascot certainly stands out in a world of Cougars, Pumas, and Panthers. Not only that, but the nickname itself has a nickname — and "the Jackets" is a cool moniker to wear. Berkeley High's sideline spirit creature is one of the very few insects bold enough to stand up to a world of Spartans, Titans, and, yes, Bears. But the Berkeley High mascot is a true representative of a school that is easy to overlook, but only at your own peril.
