You don’t need to travel south of the border to get your tequila fix. Downtown Berkeley’s most popular new Mexican restaurant, Comal, located only un tiro de piedra from the BART station, serves a heck of a margarita — a blend of Cimarrón Blanco tequila and agave syrup, garnished with lime on a salted rim. Served on the rocks instead of blended, it’s not too sugary, and is quite refreshing. The sweet-and-salty cocktail goes great with Comal’s tortilla chips and three salsas, and is best enjoyed on the restaurant’s outdoor patio, where a fire pit will keep you toasty in the cooler months. Luckily, the bar and outdoor tables are self-seating, so you can drink and snack while you wait for a table. You won’t mind doing so.
