Big Black Penis
Shawn Taylor's Big Black Penis is a humorous meditation on black masculinity, focusing on one man trying to define himself amid misconceptions and stereotypes. There are enough twists and curves to keep any reader titillated, while giving insight on the author's inner workings showing the vulnerability, fear, and concern in full something not often granted to black men in America. In line with the do-it-yourself spirit of the bay, Taylor sold thousands of copies of his self-published memoir from the trunk of his car in the parking lots of spots like Mingles and Geoffrey's, mostly to women who wanted to understand their own BBPs. Since then, the book won DIY Book of the Year at last year's DIY Book Festival, the publishing rights have been bought by a major publisher, and Taylor has gone on to write about A Tribe Called Quest's People's Instinctive Travels and The Paths of Rhythm for Continuum Books' 331/3 series. The latter is available on Amazon.
