Best in the West

Cal Women's Basketball

It's been history in the making every year for the Cal women's basketball program. Coach Joanna Boyle has the Golden Bears reaching heights that have never been scaled in team annals. This past year found Cal in the Sweet 16 for the first time ever, playing the undefeated Connecticut Huskies and giving the eventual champions a battle that showed the basketball world that the best may be yet to come. The superlatives keep rolling out of Berkeley. Ashley Walker was named the university's first-ever Basketball Writers All-American, while teammate Alexis Gray-Lawson is the second Basketbear in the past five years to be a part of the US national team. Coach Boyle, a Pac-10 Coach of the Year, has won more games in her time than any whistle blower in Cal history. Needless to say, the rest of the women's hoops world will have to be loaded for Bear in 2009.
(Sorry, no information is currently available for other years in this same award category.)
