You can get everything from Philly cheesesteaks to steam-table chana masala at Gyros Corner, a gyros shop in the food court of the Newpark Mall. Stick to the specialty, though. Ninety percent of gyros shops buy their preformed blocks of beef and lamb from factories in Chicago, but the Afghan owners of this shop have theirs made locally, using equal proportions of halal beef and lamb. Slathered in onions and yogurt and wrapped in a soft pita, a Gyros Corner gyros is merely better than your average sandwich until you dip it into the little pot of vinegary mint-chile chutney that comes with it (not very Greek, but neither is gyros, actually). Then it becomes sublime.
.Best Gyros: Unlike most, locally made
