Best Garlic Noodles

The Fireside Lounge

The Fireside is an old Navy hangout from the days when the Alameda Naval Air Station was still up and running, but its claim to fame now is a homemade delicacy known as garlic noodles. A variation on chicken soup, this dish is made with chicken (all white meat), garlic, chives, sweet onions, homemade chicken stock, and white noodles. (All this in addition to a few secret ingredients the management won't identify.) One regular described these noodles as a cure for the common cold, not to mention a good way to battle plain old cold weather. The price is right: less than five bucks for a huge bowl. But plan ahead. Garlic noodles are only served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday-Friday, and on the first three Saturdays of every month.
