Best Fishing Spot: Blissful relaxation (and maybe even fish)
From Concord, take Highway 4 east until it looks like the Central Valley. FishSniffer.com
Sport fishermen will tell you that you don't really go fishing to catch fish. Theoretically, this means something deep it's all about the journey and whatnot. But for East Bay anglers, that can be an all-too-sad truth. If you want to spend one of those glorious summer afternoons on the water with your kid and your poles and actually catch something, head to the Delta. For one, there are fish year-round, so many that you might think you've been transported back to some preindustrial time when the rivers overflowed with nature's bounty. Sturgeon, striped bass, largemouth, and bluegill all make their homes in the Delta; right now, 'tis the season to pop out the trolling rig and hop after those stripers. Locals report some otherworldly fish action this year. And although stiff winds can blow a few clouds through paradise, a place like the corner of Discovery Bay offers a little refuge from the elements and the traditional fishless fishing days.
