Ali Golden

While most designers seem to flood out of the Bay Area for places like Los Angeles and New York, Ali Golden proves you can build a successful clothing line in the East Bay. From her Temescal Alley workshop, Golden has been designing expertly tailored sheer pieces, which will be available for the first time at local boutiques such as McMullen and Hawthorn come August. For her Fall 2012 collection, the designer embarked on her first foray into larger-scale production, as well as experimented with new silhouettes and colors. Expanding on her well-loved sheer maxi dresses and finely tailored tops, Golden played around with back-baring cutouts and bright pops of pink and coral. And despite expanding production, Golden can still frequently be found in her studio and workspace, where she carries one-off samples and experiments in synthetics for seriously slashed prices. Head there now for a peek at Spring 2013, which features iterations on primary colors, washed silk, and big pleats. But, like always, the emphasis is on crafting sheer pieces that can be customized depending on the wearer. Golden’s separate basics transform when thrown over a vintage slip or layered beneath one of her cropped-sleeve kimono coats.
