.Best Everyday Brunch Spot

Jodie’s Restaurant

If a delicious, no-frills, stick-to-your-ribs Sunday brunch is something worth celebrating, then every day is a party at Jodie’s, arguably the best old-school greasy-spoon breakfast spot in the Bay Area. One wall of the cramped cubbyhole of a space where owner Jodie Royston presides is completely covered with specials — mostly breakfast fare — that are typed up on colorful laminated placards: Eggs Royston (an extra-tangy riff on Eggs Benedict), Charles’ Grilled Cheese (featuring beef hot links and a fried egg), the Nothing (which is an awful lot of food for “Nothing”), and dozens more. The punnily named specials may put a smile on your face, but it’s the perfect execution of the simplest things — scrambled eggs, hash browns, grilled English muffins — that keep Royston’s legion of loyal customers coming back week after week.
