Triple Rock Brewery and Alehouse
The most crucial component of any brewpub worth its weight in hops is often the most overlooked: the beer. Berkeley's Triple Rock, established as Roaring Rock in 1985 and one of the country's first brewpubs, has that nailed and all of the other selling points too. The interior is draped in richly dark wood, with unique beer-related miscellany adorning the walls. A custom-stocked jukebox plays most nights of the week, with the occasional big game showing on a pair of high-definition flat-screens. A nifty rooftop sundeck is even on hand for outdoor imbibing. As for the menu, it's above-average pub fare: affordable, reliable, and tasty like the best cheap eats in Berkeley. But back to the beer: Triple Rock's are some of the best microbrews in the Bay Area, including a full range of styles from Pinnacle Pale Ale (4.8 percent alcohol) to Titanium Pale Ale (7.4 percent) and beyond. About forty rotate in and out throughout the year, with ten to twelve on hand every night.
