Best Breakfast/Brunch: Repress that bacon guilt

Blackberry Bistro

Hobb's applewood-smoked bacon usually shows up at places too hoity-toity to cook breakfast, but at Blackberry Bistro you can have a few of the thickly cut, sweetly smoked rashers with your eggs over easy. Owner Robert Dorsey, who made his bones at places like Cafe Rouge and Bay Wolf, decided that high-priced bistros weren't worth the hype. So he opened up a sunny, unpretentious cafe in Oakland's Glenview neighborhood where the omelets are as soft as custard, the biscuits all but float off the plate, and the shrimp and grits would satisfy the most finicky Southerner. Now, Sunday mornings you'd have better luck getting a seat in church, and those who make it in worship his vanilla-orange challah French toast and Frisbee-sized potato pancakes.
