Best Birding by Feet or Seat: Where nature and commerce converge

Albany Mudflats

On the bay side of the Buchanan Street underpass near the Albany Bulb is a small remnant of the original bay shoreline where several streams feed nutrients into a broad mudflat delta, creating a rich food source for a greater variety of shorebirds than you might see almost anywhere else on the San Francisco Bay. With the roar of the nearby freeway and the juxtaposition of the teeming marsh upon the big box stores in the not-so-distant background, this is the perfect spot to reflect upon humanity's place in nature, and the chances of that relationship being a lasting one. It's also, of course, a great place to watch birds of many kinds.
