Best Beauty Supply: Appealing to your locks, and your vanity
Beauty Supply Warehouse
Who'd have thought that one of the largest suppliers of hair care products for African-American women would be Korean-owned? This gigantic purple and orange warehouse on Telegraph Avenue in Oakland's unofficial Koreatown claims to be the No. 5 beauty store in the country by sales, according to manager Casey Kim, who adds that they're doing so much business -- they even get calls from Australia and England -- that they plan to open a store in Africa soon. It's easy to see why. The warehouse has every hair care, beauty product, and accessory you can imagine -- a rainbow of synthetic wigs, rows of extensions, curlers, brushes, combs, scrunchies, bandannas, shoes, belts, purses, sunglasses, jewelry, and anything else that will fit. Although most of the inventory caters to an African-American clientele, the store recently expanded to include a roomful of salon-brand shampoos and conditioners, ensuring something for everyone.
