Berkeley Symphony steps into the New Year with Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony

Thu., Jan. 26 2012
Music Director Joana Carneiro and Berkeley Symphony, joined by young soloists from the Pacific Boychoir Academy, kick off the New Year with a concert of entrancement and reflection.

One of the most exquisite instrumental fantasies, Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune evokes a mythical and sensual dream world. A somber yet evocative reflection of World War II follows with Henry Dutilleux's The Shadows of Time. The concert closes with Shostakovich's rebellious Fifth Symphony-written at the height of Stalin's Great Terror, it is hauntingly beautiful and triumphant.

Tickets start at $20. For more information,
