The former Beckett's has now been refurbished and recast it into what its web site calls "bar and bistro entertainment" — a restaurant-nightclub hybrid with cloth napkins and cute Cal-Med accents in the back and neon lights and dance music in the front. Cocktails err on the sweet side, but stick with beer (and get past the slightly schizoid atmosphere) and you'll be just fine.
This rambling two-story bar-restaurant-nightspot still has the look and vibe of an Irish pub (the building housed Beckett’s for a decade), but the entirely revamped menu features organic/sustainable California Mediterranean specialties, some of them unfocused but many of them impressive. Try the delicate flatbread pizzeti, the seasonal farmers’ market soup, and the roasted chicken with Brussels sprouts, and don’t miss the apple tart for dessert. House cocktails are on the sweet and insubstantial side; nightly DJs make conversation difficult.
