Beauty’s Bagel Shop has made a name for itself with its dense, slightly sweet, hand-rolled, Montreal-style bagels, but its sandwiches, cold salads, smoked fish, and other offerings deserve credit as well. The organic fried-chicken sandwich is hot and juicy, while the smoked trout sandwich is generously portioned, a touch on the salty side (but not in a bad way), and delicious when paired with crunchy radishes and butter lettuce. Its seasonal salads are farmers’-market fresh, and a steal at six dollars. And while bagel dogs usually make one’s stomach queasy, Beauty’s’ version is a game-changer. To boot, the bustling neighborhood spot with a touch of nostalgia for old Montreal has a wood-fire oven that makes it particularly cozy.
