Red Bull is ready to expand its empire. Roughly three months since opening a pristine recording studio in Santa Monica, California, the energy drink company-turned-music industry Goliath -- which has served as a promotional arm for most major labels for the past decade -- is launching a national search for the next Timbaland or Dan the Automator. Thursday (May 29), the company will hold Bay Area Beat Down, the second of eight regional battles to find the hottest undiscovered producer in the US. The top two finalists will go on to the Red Bull Big Tune Championships in New York City this December, and spar for a chance to record at Red Bull Studios (the winner gets to collaborate with two artists of her choice).
