For the week of May 14-20, 2008

Bearing witness would be the wisest posture to assume this week, but observation without participation isn't likely to be anyone's first choice. There's simply too much going on, and because so much of what's happening is emotionally charged, refraining from opinion or action would make you a candidate for sainthood. Much of the brouhaha is the result of even more startling revelations, as secrets, personal and collective, seem to stream from an irrepressible fountain of truth. I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted by the recent plethora of disclosures, and while it is hard to imagine there could be anything left to surprise, this week and next, the planets are upping the ante on spilling the beans. Which is why it would be wise to make every effort to objectively observe rather than subjectively react. Not every revelation will have the power to confound, and those that don't can go quietly. But those that do are certain to require contemplation prior to action. So do whatever it is you do to stay centered and calm, but don't beat yourself up if you find yourself in the midst of a drama. Just take a deep breath and do your best to relax, and think before you speak or leap.

The source of this charged air is the ongoing sextile between Jupiter and Uranus. Exact in exactly a week, this sextile, while positive, catalyzes whatever is stagnant, and that process translates into personal and collective upheaval. One minute the marriage is on and the next it's not. You're sure you want to move to Italy, but suddenly you realize Hawaii is a better choice. Obama's the candidate ... wait ... no, it's Hillary ... no it's Obama, and so on and so forth. But it's not the vacillations that are unnerving — it's what underlies the change of mind that sets pulses a twit. And it's those motivations and intentions that have the power to take your breath away. The good news for this week is that the Sun still trines Jupiter and sextiles Uranus, an alignment that makes humor available to soothe those shocked nervous systems. And for the optimist, this configuration guarantees a pony.

The other potentially nerve-jangling current is a looming Mercury Retrograde. Yes, Mercury goes retrograde on May 26, which seems like a long way away, but it's not. Especially because there is so much happening between now and then, the retrograde is likely to arrive unnoticed, which means unprepared. Back up everything now, and then, just to be safe, back it up again.

While I don't think it is possible, this would be the week to avoid getting embroiled in disputes or displays. Yes, the temptation to jump in will be strong, but it will be even stronger over the next several weeks, so rather than spending your energy impulsively or recklessly, conserve.

If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that, too.

Aries March 21-April l9

While I can't guarantee a windfall, it does seem as if unforeseen opportunities to make tangible financial gains are likely. These openings could require hard work, but that's never stopped you from seizing the moment and making the most of it.

Taurus April 20-May 20

Refine and reinforce your mind/body/spirit awareness. Whether it is exercise, meditation, yoga, or journaling, spend time investigating what might be interfering with a stronger connection.

Gemini May 21-June 21

The current climate of startling revelations could actually work for you, especially if you're committed to cleaning out your closets, internal and external. You don't have to throw away everything, just belief systems that no longer serve.

Cancer June 22-July 22

If you keep the biggest possible picture in mind, you will have the best perspective on certain challenging situations. Remember, this isn't the time for action, it's the time for awareness.

Leo July 23-August 22

Window-shop all you like, but try not to assuage your insecurity through retail therapy. Yes, there are things you need, but right now, solidifying your financial base is more important than spending to alleviate anxiety.

Virgo August 23-September 22

While you feel the need to lighten up, don't let that turn into the kind of superficiality that will only cause problems later. Denial can work for short periods, but it is not the attitude of choice for the long run.

Libra September 23-October 22

Rather than worry about the future, celebrate what's good in life right now. Remember, whatever we focus our attention on becomes our reality. Focus on gratitude and your life will only become more abundant.

Scorpio October 23-November 21

Keep it simple. Spend time with significant others, friends, or family, but try not to overdo it. The temptation to indulge a variety of appetites could seduce you into biting off more than you can chew.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21

You may not be as subtle as you think you are, especially when it comes to hiding your feelings. Rather than spend your energy pretending, be brave and allow your honesty to facilitate the healing.

Capricorn December 22-January 19

Certain situations continue to challenge you emotionally, but that's no reason to feel defeated. You're in the midst of a huge, uncomfortable transformational process. But over time, your situation will improve.

Aquarius January 20-February 18

Don't be surprised if you have to take a stand for someone you love. Do your best to protect, but try not to exacerbate the situation by polarizing. Instead, rely on compassion to heal and soothe the situation.

Pisces February 19-March 20

Conversations with friends will help you cope with anxiety about the future, especially if those exchanges help you to realize just how much you are speculating on a negative outcome. Your situation isn't bleak, it's just uncertain.
