Annual "Day of Giving" Community Dinner

When: Thu., Nov. 25, 4-6:45 p.m. 2010
Price: free

ItÕs not hard to find an East Bay restaurant that claims some sort of social-justice mission, but few take it as seriously as Spice Monkey. While the Oaksterdam fusion joint boasts all the requisite buzzwords of a ÒconsciousÓ restaurant ñ it favors organic, local, sustainable, and healthy food ñ Spice Monkey one-ups its peers by offering an annual Thanksgiving meal thatÕs free to anyone who brings in ten cans of food, which are in turn donated to local food banks. Last yearÕs event, the restaurantÕs first, was hugely popular and collected 775 pounds of food; this year, theyÕre aiming even higher. The meal includes a main course and a Òspecial treat.Ó Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Thursday, Nov. 25, 4-6:45 p.m.; come by the restaurant beforehand to drop off cans and receive a meal ticket. or 510-268-0170
