Alexander Maksik

When: Fri., Aug. 2, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: free
In Alexander Maksik’s newest novel, A Marker to Measure Drift, the twenty-year-old protagonist, Jacqueline, has lost all sense of grounding: Having moved to a hillside village on a small Greek island, she finds her mysterious past keeps coming back to haunt her. Maksik weaves together Jacqueline’s present experience in a foreign country with potent hallucinations of her past life in Liberia to give the sense of a woman searching desperately for the markers that measure life’s drift. Join the author this Friday at Books Inc. (1344 Park St., Alameda) as he reads from the novel.
