If you're interested, here's who to contact for more info. Rich Brazeau's NorCal adventure race series, the premier events with a Bay Area focus. There are four-hour races for newbies and nine-hour races for more experienced competitors. Bay Area Adventure Racing Babes and Dudes offers community forums, team contact information, links to other AR sites, news, gear, and nutrition information, and more. Check out the ten-day insanity that was Primal Quest 2008, in Montana. The outdoors outfitter sometimes has "Adventure Racing 101" clinics, and you can buy pretty much everything you need to complete even Primal Quest. Stores are located in Berkeley and Concord. The world of mountain bikes is rife with fairly complicated detail, and this shop is used to catering to the needs of adventure racers. Plus, there are free weekly group rides so you can get used to climbing upward on two wheels. Aquan, a supporter of adventure racers, offers equipment for kayaking, scuba diving, kite boarding, and more. There is a free weekly paddle group on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. at Parkside Aquatic Park in San Mateo.
