The lowdown on “food insecurity” and the lamentable statistic that 49 million Americans exist without enough to eat in a nation with more than enough food — it’s the very definition of an “outrage documentary,” courtesy filmmakers Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush. En route to the hopeful last act, we visit three children and their families in rural Colorado, urban Philadelphia, and the Mississippi countryside; hear the tunes of T-Bone Burnett and the Civil Wars, and listen to food experts and the likes of movie star Jeff Bridges explain the situation. Aside from its radical solution to the problem — eliminate economic inequality — a sad but basically unremarkable film, alongside Food, Inc.; Fast Food Nation; and Super Size Me. (84 min.)
