This article posits negative uncertainty on the future of a local, art-based economy in and for Oakland. The cultural phenomenon that was born out of Mama Buzz WILL continue and grow, maybe not just in size, but with the best opportunity for re-defining a sharing economy based on innovation, sustainable business incubation and the continued growth for creating good livelihoods (not just living wage 'jobs').

There was a fight at art murmur in June that resulted in multiple injuries.

Managing crowds that contain some intoxicated people is surely a headache for the city and organizers. But leaving the street open is asking for more troubles down the road.

I have been involved somewhat in this ongoing discussion as I organize large events like the Temescal Street Fair and Rockridge Out and About. The fact that a two-month old was killed in LA at a similar event makes me more worried than ever that something REALLY bad could happen here.

Art Murmur could solve its $ issues with a combination of fairs and festival $ placed in this year's budget by Councilmember Kaplan, money from both the Uptown and Lake Merritt Community Business District (BID) and KONO BID and the City money offered on a short term basis by the City Administrator's office.
