Re: “Oakland Planning Commission Approves 'Mammoth' Tower Next to MacArthur BART

"For West Oakland, the overall rate of asthma emergency department(ED)

is 1014.6 per 100,000 residents; the Alameda County rate is 531.8 per 100,000. The asthma ED visit rate for children (0 4 year olds) is 1224.3 per

Re: “Oakland Police Union Spending Thousands on Effort to Unseat Councilmembers Kalb and Gallo

The problem of understaffing of police officers in Oakland has been a decades long problem. And so has the problem of accountability. The recent scandal in OPD and it's depth have proven once again the department is incapable of holding its own officers accountable. And in an era of growing militarization of police departments, it is more incumbent than ever to retain civilian control and monitoring of our nation's police forces. Oakland with all its problems is no exception. Police now have growing tools to surveil all residents and politicians. IMO OPD has always had too much sway over Oakland's politicians and residents. It is incumbent for the preservation of our democracy and republic that police departments be held accountable by civilian police review boards and commissions. Dan Kalb has shown great courage and integrity in bringing this measure along with Noel Gallo. He deserves the full support of his district and the entire city's residents.

Re: “Coal Money Divides Oakland's Churches

Portland Oregon and Beaverton, Oregon rallied against shipping coal through their towns and communities. Physicians for Social Responsibility and the Portland Audubon Society helped organize opposition. They won local officials over to their side.

Where is Oakland's environmental community? Does Oakland even have a constituency that cares about global warming? Or does the usual black/white racial politics trump human survival even?

Oaklanders and the People's Republic of Berkeley activists think they are the center of the universe. This is where they tend to show their true provincial--bound forever PC racial politics.

As for Oakland's City Council, in my opinion once again the sorriest bunch of sellouts on the West Coast. The bankrupt Democratic Party machine will hold sway over Oakland until the bitter end.

Re: “Bern, Baby, Bern: It's on to Nevada

One of Hillary's biggest pastoral supporters Otis Moss, Jr. also sits on Obama's Council dealing with Faith Based Neighborhood initiatives. It's run out of the Oval Office which does not have a record of transparency. This is where the rubber aka money meets the road.

Re: “Thursday Must Reads: Gov. Brown Allies Fire Top Environmental Regulator; Feinstein Pushes to Give More NorCal Water to Big Ag

Jerry Brown just undid his best legacy in his first term as Governor, The California Coastal Comission. Oakland, you can have him back.

Re: “An Alternative to the Tunnels

The Liberals are oohing and aahing because Governor Brown has echoed what a growing body of scientists are proclaiming-that human extinction is now a possibility. Brown is a master at fooling liberals who love rhetoric more than action. By Brown supporting, Big Ag's Peripheral Canal, twice defeated by California voters, he hastens the very human extinction he proclaims. Let's see if he gets on board this proposal to reform his expensive Peripheral Canal "boondoggle". Somehow, I think not.
