Re: “The Bacon-Wrapped Economy

The overt ageism that exists among these young tech workers wasn’t discussed in much detail but it’s an essential part of their worldview. Unless you have some legendary status like Steve Jobs or, at the very least, give off a young vibe, you won’t be taken seriously by these people. As anyone whose ordinary and over 40 knows, your experience is very unlikely to be valued at these tech startups, no matter how good. What happens in 10 years when these same people are our age and continually surrounded by younger coworkers? I personally don’t believe that there will be paradigm shift that will do away with this ageism. Instead, the emphasis on youth will continue and those who no longer qualify will find themselves forced to leave the Neverland they helped to create. Certainly some of these same people will try to do something constructive with their past experience but will they be able to cope when they lose their status as trendsetters and the money that goes along with it?
